Wibautstraat 150
Amsterdam
Opening April 28th, 19.00u
Exposition April 29th - May 25th 2008
The photographic work of Daan Roggeveen focuses on the contemporary city and its development. On different places, he emphasises on divergent topics, from parking lots in Belgium to real estate advertisements in Ukraine. Most of all, the ordinary, and the astonishment about it, is his main theme. The tool of series is often used to research a certain phenomenon, or to make something explicit. The combination of photos and series from Ukraine, Belgium and L.A. lead to the project with the working title ‘No People’. Behind the apparent coincidental combination of the countries Ukraine and Belgium and the mega city of Los Angeles, appears to be a relation. Lack of planning, banality, and roughness turning into beauty are returning elements in the pictures.
This is a selection of pictures from the project ‘No People’.
